practicing.

I got a new lens for my camera last week…
I haven’t bought a new lens in almost 2 years,
I was more than excited when it arrived and began shooting pics of whatever was close by–
the tea kettle, a pile pf socks, and of poor Ryan who was trying to talk to me about something at the time,
but I was too engrossed in my new lens (sorry Ryan!)

Then Caleb walked into the room,
and became my new target,
and I’m so glad he did because I just love this one…

I’d like to frame it…

…do you prefer the picture in color
or black and white?

weekend highlights.

Spent friday night celebrating my niece’s birthday with my family in OKC,
left the boys at grandpa’s house and Ryan and I took the girls to a hotel for the night,
which made us realize how much EASIER just 2 kids are,
(but we missed the boys, of course!)
saturday morning we dropped Eden off with Grandpa and picked up the boys and headed to Frontier City for the day,
Sunday morning church,
last minute bar-b-q with a few friends at our house,
and back to work (from home) for me today,
and maybe off to a movie later.

sisters

LOVE this picture I took of the girls this weekend,
they were taking a quick break from jumping across the hotel beds.
I want to frame it
to remember these days of being little best friends :)

Should I frame it in color or black and white?

Just sharing some fun pics from my phone today…

Playing rummy with the kids,
wearing my new love links bracelet,
Eden is whacking moles,
and some sweet birdies hanging out on wires.

Working from home,
being silly (thanks Ryan),
lovely fresh flowers,
and the store
(which has been SUPER busy the past couple of weeks!)

My kitchen window sill,
Jonah dressed himself for church (we call him Mr. GQ),
a fun feature of our baby spoons in a magazine,
and baby geese following their momma (we have lots of geese around town these days!)

Thank you all of the sweet comments on my post yesterday,
I don’t get too personal very often,
I try to keep things light,
but it’s been heavy on my heart :)

baseball (via instagram)

2-3 nights a week we head to Caleb’s baseball games-

pics above:

Caleb pitching- Oh my word this is SO nerve racking!
Ryan giving a pep talk, he’s the head coach.
Caleb catching- just as nerve racking as pitcher!
Short stop- finally a position where my blood pressure doesn’t rise!
My snack :)
Caleb catching again.
Caleb and Coach Dad chatting on third base.
Pitching.

I’m loving baseball season,
way more than I thought I would!

We received this sweet picture from Krystle on our facebook page:

Her husband bought her the layered circle of love-
the inner layer has her boys’ names,
and the outer layer says “my hands are almost as full as my heart”,
love it!

This custom shutterbug necklace picture
was sent to us by facebook fan Irela:

newport beach pier.

While in California we drove down the coast a bit.

It was BEAUTIFUL.

Then we drove to Hollywood
and had dinner at Miceli’s,
and it. was. AMAZING!
I highly recommend it if you’re ever in the area :)

Christmas tree bokeh.

Enjoying the lights twinkling throughout the house :)

For the picture above I set my lens on manual focus and blurred it to the desired effect, so pretty!

Then I made my own heart filter-
I took a piece of black constriction paper,
traced and cut out a circle from the end of my 60mm fixed lens,
(a 50mm or any fixed lens should work fine too),
punched out a heart shape out of the middle
and then taped the paper onto the end of my lens.

Put your lens on manual focus to play with the blur effect…

Something fun to try before the tree goes down!

big cheese.

Eden sees me get my camera out.

She sits down and says,
“Mommy, take my picture.”

OK.

I flip on my camera, point it at her and tell her to smile.

And this is what I get:

Thanks Eden :)

SPC Week #3 STREET *Mom Taxi*

One of our inevitable duties as Moms is transportation, chauffeur, basically a “mom taxi”. This is my van 2-3 days a week around 3 PM, when my 2 little ones and I pick up my son and his friends from school. This picture just looks busy to me, which really describes my life overall as a mom of a 6 year old, 4 year old and a 2 1/2 year old. My oldest on the left is telling me about something his friend did at school, Tessa on the right is talking to Andrew in the back left, Allyson in the middle is doing homework so she can play as soon as she gets home, and Jonah in the back right is spotting flags. Busy but blessed.

See more SPC’s here.

Self Portrait Challenge–On the STREET

This is my first Self Portrait Challenge, called “Walk and Talk”. I’ve been oohing and aweing over all of these self portrait challenge photos and decided to jump in and give it a try. This month’s challenge is “On the Street” and I tried taking a picture of my kids and I taking a walk. I plan on most of my pictures for the challeges to show me as a Mother with my kids being involved in some way. My kids and I love to take walks, especially through the park, but today it was just around the neighborhood. We love to just talk and sing together on our leisurely strolls. Let me tell you that I don’t have a fancy camera, it’s digital but that’s about it- no fun lenses for me. A new camera is definately on my “save up for” wish list. I am loving photography and hoping my pictures will improve quickly! *crossing my fingers and toes*
