game time.

A couple of months ago
Caleb tried out for and made a competitive baseball team!
They’ve been practicing hard since January and now it’s time to play…
so for the next couple of months we will be watching him bat…
stealing bases (Caleb is number 8)…

and catching…

I love baseball,
I wish/hope one of my boys will fall in love with it too
so I can watch them play all year round!

I also need to figure our how to take better pics from behind the fence,
any tips?

I think your Picts are great! I actually didn’t even notice the fence until you mentioned it… Maybe because they’re in B&W. Besides, it tells part of the story. I suppose next time we see “that lady” climbing the fence, we will know it’s just you wanting a “bird’s-eye-view” for your shot! LOL

Congrats on your son making the team! I’m a baseball loving mom too. My little guy, also #8, is a few weeks shy of 17 and is now 6’4″…but seeing your pictures brought me right back to when he was 10 years old! Fun memories. One tip for taking pictures at games is to get right up to the fence and shoot between the links. I hope he has a wonderful season!

A pair of bolt cutters should snip out a nice hole in the chain link fence… ;-)

I was actually thinking the pictures looked great with the fence in them. It adds to the story. Makes it artsy.

Like the others I think your pictures are great. The fence adds a lot to the pictures.

If you use manual focus you should be able to focus on your son & almost eliminate the fence from your picture. Or, using auto focus, change your focus points to just one rather than across the whole view finder. Put that focal point on your son and the fence will almost disappear.

I love watching my boy play baseball – so fun!

Get as close to the fence as possible. Shooting through links sometimes works but is hard to do when there is fast movement. I got frustrated trying to shoot through links until I realized that I could do it different. Get about a foot away and if you can choose your f stop (in AV mode) use the smallest number you can so your depth of field is shallow so when you focus on your son the fence disappears. Like the person said above, sometimes you have to switch to manual if it will not focus past the fence. I agree with the others as well about the fence adding to it but I know how you feel about wanting some without seeing it. Good luck.
